Surveyor

Prior to sale, all state-owned land must undergo a land survey, i.e. be measured using benchmarks on the ground. The surveyors/geometers, the only professionals qualified to carry out land surveys required to demarcate and identify state-owned land, prepare a surveying book and a plan to describe the operations carried out on the land, and to illustrate boundary positions.

The public land survey procedure forms the basis of the property deeds delivered.

Public land surveys are used to demarcate and identify state-owned land parcels. Surveyors / geometers measure notably the border between public and private domains, and certain encumbrances such as electric transmission corridors.
