Plumbing in a new house
A vérifier durant les travaux de promblerie et avant le règlement des sous-traitants
- The base of the bathtub must be well supported on the ground.
- Bathtub must be positioned correctly within the podium and fixed solidly.
- The slope of the pipes must enable water drainage down to the basement.
- Pipes must be stuck or soldered and fixed correctly.
- Pipes must be positioned so as to avoid freezing and minimize damage to ceilings and walls. That said, they must not affect the structure.
- The holes made in joists, beams and walls must be large enough to allow the pipes to pass through, leaving space to accommodate reaction to temperature fluctuation. Otherwise you will hear creaking when the hot water runs through the pipes.
- The water outlet must have a slope leading to the exterior to facilitate drainage and as such avoid damage due to ice
- Vents must have a positive slope.
- Vent pipes must be connected correctly to the slater’s plumbing vents so as to avoid water seepage.
- Plumbing pipes must never be placed too near to an access door. This will avoid condensation in the pipes.
- Make sure that you have outlets for all of the plumbing equipment requested (tank, additional water outlet, etc.).
- A pressure test must be carried out once the work is finished.
- Check that the torn vapor barrier and dislodged wool have been repaired.
Conseils Pratiques
You must provide the plumber with a copy of the work plan so that he can locate his apparatus. Indicate where you would like the bath and shower taps. He can advise you in this regard.
Inspect the condition of the bathtub and the shower once they have been installed. The plumber is not responsible for damage subsequent to their installation. Once the bathtub is installed, you can build a protective box to cover it completely.
To include in the contract
- Basement
- Elevation
- Finishing (labor only)
- Submersible pump (if necessary)
- Plan for humidifier and/or drain for air exchanger
Note: It is preferable to have chosen all the plumbing accessories and to have the specifications to hand, giving a copy to the plumber before he starts his work. Installation of showers and sometimes baths will be done during elevation.
