To be verified whilst paintwork is underway

• Check that there are at least 2 layers of paint on all of the walls requiring painting.

To be included in the contract

• A base coat (primer)
• 1 (minimum) layer or 2 layers of finishing
• Retouch painting following construction work, just before a final housecleanà
• All material and labor as required for this work

Practical tips

Painters often calculate the number of square feet to be covered based on the amount of drywall ordered. Make sure you know the exact quantity of drywall you have hung in the unpainted rooms and deduct this from the total amount used. Be honest because a painter knows exactly the surface he can cover with one liter of paint, and he also knows how much he uses. Protecting hardware will avoid you having to unscrew door hinges. If you have wood trim, trim or ramps to color, tell the painter in advance so that he can plan the length of time needed accordingly. Trim between linoleum and the floor must be varnished before being installed by the finishing carpenter.
